Name: Ales Mansay. Also known as “The Magician".
From: Rayman Origins
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown

History:
Ales was never good at magic. He was teased as a child because of this, so he tried to keep to himself and avoid attention. His life was fairly boring until the events of the first Rayman game. When the mysterious “Mr. Dark” appeared, stealing the great Protoon, kidnapping Betilla the Fairy (one of Ales’ few friends), and generally sending the world into chaos; Ales awakened the hero of the Glade of Dreams, Rayman. While Ales never actively rescued Electoons or fought monsters, he offered the hero a few services along the way. Extra lives and bonus levels here and there, in exchange for Tings. If you’re going to save the world, why not make some profit?

But after Mr. Dark had been defeated, and the world had been saved... Ales couldn’t help but feel that something was missing. Years passed, and the Glade of Dreams fell in and out of danger from various evil-doers. He grew to resent the endless cycle of peace and mayhem, and the Glade’s constant dependence on Rayman to save them. He blamed their creator, The Bubble Dreamer, for being the cause of the nightmares that plagued their world. Despite being a god, he lacked the ability to control the dreams he made into reality, and he was too lazy to fix any of the problems he created.

Feeling so at odds with the heroes of their world, Ales began to reevaluate the ones he had considered evil before. He was drawn to the mystery surrounding Mr. Dark, and how his cool, stoic personality sharply contrasted with the silly, hedonistic style of the Glade.
Ales decided that it was time to take matters into his own hands. Taking on the mantle of Mr. Dark, he concocted a plan to purposefully put the Glade in danger once again. He placed microphones in the branches of the Snoring Tree, a place where the Bubble Dreamer, Rayman and his friends liked to relax. The sounds of their snoring carried down through the tree, awakening the Land of the Livid Dead below. The evil forces escaped to the surface, capturing nyphms and Electoons, releasing Lums, and ripping apart the landscape. The sudden loss of Electoons also caused the Bubble Dreamer to lose some of his memories, and forget his creations. While Rayman and his friends immediately set to fixing things, Ales helped them along the way, collecting the Lums they’d saved in exchange for more Electoons (He’d been the one capturing them, anyway).

At the same time, Ales had turned his attention to science. Magic had never been his strong suit, after all, so why not recreate those same abilities in a way that made sense to him? He found a way to harness Lums into energy, and use them to power his mechanical fortress, a steampunk city in the sky. He even found ways to control the weather, and surround his hideout in an impenetrable storm cloud.
Now he waits in the Moody Clouds, until he’s finally strong enough to take down the hero himself, and impose a system of order and reason over the Glade of Dreams.

Personality: Ales seems pretty simple at first glance: Energetic, fast-talking, eager to please, and a little flamboyant. But there’s a lot going on under the top hat. Secrecy, bitter sarcasm and malevolence all hide just below the surface of his pleasant demeanor. He’s not necessarily evil- he’s just a little too smart for his own good. In a world that runs on magic and mayhem, Ales functions on logic and order, making him often at odds with the others. He’s a careful planner, and is good at getting people to do what he wants. He generally likes to keep to himself, hiding under his hat until someone needs his advice. But he’s not totally stoic or serious, he has a good sense of humor and gets excited easily. He’s very passionate about the things he loves, and like many Teensies has a special talent for dancing. He wants to be more mysterious and menacing, but his upbeat personality is too useful to let go of completely.

Moral Standing: He’s a Bad Guy, disguised as an ally.
Dreams: Finishing his floating steampunk fortress, successfully tricking Rayman and his friends and carrying on Mr. Dark’s legacy.
Fears: Being caught in a lie, entering the Land of the Livid Dead, humiliation and failure.
Strengths: Manipulative, persuasive, talented in engineering and robotics.
Weaknesses: Extremely weak magical abilities, loses his cool easily, no physical strength.
Extra:
-He’s a fluent speaker of English and Pig Latin. Sometimes his words meld together, and his “ay” sounds are a bit exaggerated.
-He vaguely remembers the events of the previous games, with some slight differences (He was always a Teensie, for example.)
-He actually has one magical power he’s good at: changing size! He’s able to shrink to fit into small openings (like a crack in a wall), but he mostly uses this power to “vanish” underneath his hat.
-He can also make disco music and lights appear from nowhere. Either that’s a very odd magical ability, or he’s always prepared.
-This arcade version of the game includes extra content: More characters, more levels, etc. It also includes a boss fight with the Magician that was originally cut from the game.
